Face masks will become mandatory at public events with more than 1,000 people, starting this Saturday 18 September 2021.

The Tasmanian Government stated that the new mask-wearing requirement is a response to the currently heightened COVID-19 risk nationally, with events identified to be among the highest-risk environments for COVID-19 transmission.

In a statement, the Tasmanian Government said masks are an extra form of protection where it might be difficult for large groups of people to keep their physical distance.

The new mandate will apply regardless of whether the event is indoors or outdoors, seated or unseated.

Those attending events of this nature will still be responsible for supplying their own fitted face masks, and must wear their mask throughout the event, including while queuing for, entering, or exiting the event site.

To 6pm on 14 September, Tasmania reported no locally or overseas acquired cases of COVID-19, keeping their total active cases currently at zero as well.
