In a win for Queensland’s events industry, the successful recipients of Round 19 of the Queensland Destination Events Program (QDEP) have been announced.

From January 2022 to January 2023, 23 events will be staged by the winning recipients, ranging from the Bundy Cup to Jungle Love Festival and the Festival of Hell.

The QDEP predicts the funding to generate over $30 million for Queensland’s visitor economy.

Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said events are ‘important for attracting visitors to Queensland’s tourist destinations, supporting jobs and the recovery of local tourism economies’.

“We know for many tourism operators, interstate Covid-19 lockdowns have presented plenty of challenges, that’s why we’ve focused on supporting iconic events that encourage visitors to stay longer,” he said.

Funded events will be featured on the It’s Live! In Queensland events calendar, giving organisers the opportunity to reap maximum exposure.

This round saw five events receive support for the first time.

Applications for Round 20 of the QDEP are open now, closing on October 6. The successful recipients will receive funding for events between May 2022 and May 2023.
