Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) recognise the vast economic and social value that sporting, health and lifestyle, art and cultural events bring to the state and local communities.

As part of their Events Strategy 2025, TEQ are creating a sustainable Queensland Events Calendar that ensures government investment is prioritised and events are integrated into both experience and destination marketing initiatives to help promote growth.

Events that can demonstrate ability to contribute to the Queensland economy, attract visitors to Queensland, and enhance the profile of the sunshine state, could potentially claim a cash injection from TEQ under its Queensland Destination Events Program (QDEP) or its Major Event Investment initiative, but hurry – applications are closing soon.

There is also a special event fund to support the Year of Indigenous Tourism in 2021.

Queensland Destination Events Program (QDEP)

QDEP offers two funding options for regional events, so long as you meet the selection criteria:

  • Destination event funding – single year funding for developing events seeking growth ($10,000 – $25,000 per year)
  • Significant event funding – single year or up to three years of funding for events that can demonstrate a strong track record of growth or growth potential ($25,000 – $100,000 per year)

Funds provided can be used for marketing costs, strategic plan development, engagement of short-term specialised personnel or hire of temporary infrastructure for the event.

If you are planning to host a destination event in Queensland, staged between May 2022 and May 2023, now is the time to check your eligibility for TEQ funding.

Applications for Round 20 of the Queensland Designation Events Program (QDEP) close on Wednesday 6 September.

Major Events Investment

Working collaboratively with government, industry and destination partners to promote major events in Queensland, TEQ can also provide major event investments to organisations who meet the criteria for a significant value event, and can complete the major events funding checklist.

Should your event be deemed eligible, TEQ’s events team will contact you with information on how to submit a full application from there.
