The Victorian Government has announced $20 million of support to help alleviate the impact of the global pandemic on the events industry. The newly established Victorian Events Support Package offers a number of grants to combat the effects of the recent two weeks of restrictions.

These restrictions have harshly impacted the events industry due to event cancellations and ticket refunds across Victoria. Uncertainty of future event viability has also been an unfortunate consequence of the state’s ongoing covid response.

The Victorian Events Support Package delivers grants in five areas to benefit event organisers and suppliers afflicted by the two weeks of event cancellations. The newly announced support package is part of over $500 million in business support provided by the Victorian Government.

The Sustainable Events Business Program aids the major event organisers, hosts and suppliers who have suffered losses from the recent restrictions and have been significantly affected by the pandemic. This grant will provide up to $250,000 to eligible businesses.

The Impacted Public Events Support Program supports the event organisers and suppliers of Tier 1 and Tier 2 events that were approved to take place between 11.59 pm on 27 May 2021 and 11.59 pm on 24 June 2021 but were postponed or cancelled due to the May restriction announcements. This grant will provide up to $25,000 to event organisers and $10,000 to event suppliers who fall into the Tier 1 and Tier 2 categories of the Public Events Framework.

Victorian presenters of live performance events are eligible for the Live Performance Support Program for presenters. This grant offers up to $7,000 for producers, promoters, venue owners, or organisations who have the authority to hold, cancel or reschedule an event.

Additionally, the Live Performance Support Program is also offered to suppliers, including performers, technicians and engineers, who were contracted to support an event but could not proceed due to the restrictions. These suppliers could be eligible for a grant of $500 per cancelled event.

Applications for the grants available through the Victorian Events Support Package close on Friday, July 16 at 11.59 pm. Businesses within the events industry are encouraged to apply here.
